Albert Joseph Joe Ellender, Sr.

Albert Joseph "Joe" Ellender, Sr., 93, of Lake Charles died at 12:00 AM on Monday, November 22, 2010 in a local hospital.


Mr. Ellender was born in Bourg, LA on November 6, 1917 and lived most of his life in Lake Charles. He served in the U.S. Army before making a life long career as a self contracted painter. Mr. Ellender belonged to the Painters Local Union #1244. He was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church where he belonged to the Knights of Columbus.


He will be remembered by his family as an adoring grandfather and great grandfather. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a generous man who never met a stranger.


Those left to cherish his memory are his loving and dedicated wife of 70 years, Vera S. Ellender of Lake Charles; a son, Al Ellender and wife Betty of Lake Charles; a brother, Eldred Ellender of Houma; two grandchildren, Alison Paige Ward and Chad C. Ellender both of Lake Charles; and five great grandchildren, Camille, Emma, Maddie, Olivia, and Will Ward.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Aglae and Lee Ellender, Sr.; and eight siblings.


Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 in the Johnson Funeral Home. The Rev. Bill Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until time of services.

  2. I was so sad to hear that Uncle Joe had passed. I wish that I had spent more time with him. When I was a young boy, I remember that he was always happy and so positive about everything in life. He was a joy to be around. I know that there is a special place in Heaven for Uncle Joe. Our prayers and thoughts are with his family.
