Betty Jewell Royer, 83, of Lake Charles died at 11:55 PM on Monday, November 7, 2011 in her residence.
Betty was born on June 30, 1928 in DeQuincy, LA and moved to Ingalls, KS in 1931 before moving to Lake Charles in 1942. She was a graduate of Lake Charles High School. Following graduation she briefly worked for Betty Lee Shoe Store. She then became employed as an operator for the Bell phone company, retiring from ATT after 35 years of dedicated service. After her retirement, she continued working with displaced homemakers.
She was a long time member of Apostolic Temple.
Those left to cherish her memory are a brother, John J. Royer and wife Barbara of Moss Bluff; a sister, Ezora Callaway of Lake Charles; two nieces, Bette Cooley and husband Larry of Lake Charles and Rebecca Royer of Houston; a nephew, Terry Callaway and wife Judy of Metairie; one great niece, Tanis Callaway; two great nephews, Craig Cooley and Erin Callaway; one great great nephew, Elijah Martinez; two half brothers, Hollie Royer and wife Lou Alice and Calvin Royer and wife Anna all of DeQuincy and their families; two half sisters, Danita Royer and Delores Willis both of DeQuincy and their families; and a host of family, including her loving church family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Golda and John Royer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the Apostolic Temple. The Rev. Ricky Treece will officiate. Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery in DeQuincy under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the church and will continue on Thursday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
