Catha Darlene Newman

November 7, 1955 — September 15, 2011

On September 15, 2011, Jesus called Mrs. Catha Darlene Newman home. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Gillis. She was true to her faith and was ready to go home to meet her savior Jesus Christ.


Mrs. Newman had a passion for taking care of the elderly and the sick. She was devoted to her family and had a true compassion for anyone in need.


Catha enjoyed writing poetry and singing. She will dearly be missed by all who knew and loved her. Her devotion and compassion for life will be missed the most.


She is preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Dallas Fontenot and a host of aunts and uncles.


She is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, Ralph Newman; three children, Gloriana "Rene`" Wilson of Sealy, TX, Danna Bertram of Sulphur, Trudy Smithers and husband Shannon of Lake Charles; seven siblings, Allen Fontenot, Clarence Fontenot, Leo Fontenot, Ronnie Fontenot, Arthur Fontenot, Mary Fontenot all of Lake Charles, and Maxine Fontenot of Metairie; 11 grandchildren, Brandon, Blake, Brittany, Brooke, Bradley, Barrett, Misti, Elizabeth, Mia, Ben, Kei'lyn.


Funeral service will be held Sunday, September 18, 2011 at 2:00PM at First Baptist Church of Gillis. Bro. Glen George and Bro. Glenn Massey will officiate. Burial will follow in New Ritchie Cemetery in Moss Bluff. Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church in Gillis Saturday, September 17, 2011 beginning at 11AM. Sunday visitation will begin from 12:30PM until time of service at 2PM.


Pallbearers will be: Steve Cross, Steve Foreman, Chris Fontenot, Danny Fontenot, Richard Carter, and Eric Sermon.
