Cathy D. Mears

April 14, 1949 ~ October 22, 2010

Cathy Deborah (Poe) Mears, 61, of Ragley passed away, Friday, October 22, 2010 in her residence.

Cathy was a native of Norfolk, Virginia and lived in the Ragley/Lake Charles area most of her life. She was a graduate of LaGrange Senior High School and a Veteran of the

U. S. Navy. Mrs. Mears worked for the Louisiana State Department of Motor Vehicles, managing the Dequincy office for twenty-two years, earning the Officer of the Year award in 2005. The jewels of Cathy's eyes and heart were her five grandchildren, and she loved spending every second with her grand babies, regretting only not getting to see them as often as she liked. Cathy also loved all her animals and treated them like her children.

Survivors include her loving husband and best friend of thirty-nine years, Glen S. Mears, Sr.; two sons, Stewart Mears and wife Kimberly of Houston, TX, and Bryan E. Mears and wife Brittney of Ragley; five grandchildren, Brianna, Baleigh, Lana, Bryson, and Jason Mears; her mother, Linda Helms Poe; two sisters, Janet Fortier and husband Alfred, and Dianne Hargette; one brother, Willard Poe, Jr. and wife Lois. She was preceded in death by her father, Willard Poe, Sr. and her sister, Carolyn Micelle.

Her funeral will be at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Gillis. Pastor Glenn George will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM, Monday, and continue from 10:00 AM until time of services, Tuesday, at the church.

In lieu of flowers and because of Cathy's great love of animals the family request donations be made to the Houston SPCA.

Memories Timeline

  1. Cathy was a very kind and loving person. When she worked she was always kind and very good at what she did. I live in Sulphur and would drive all the way to DeQuincy to renew my license or take care of my business that I to at the motor vichile office. I will greatly miss her when I go there now. May God bless each and everyone of her grandkids and her loved ones.

  2. Cathy was one of the kindest, happiest spirits I have ever know. She was a great friend with so much love to share. Glen, Brian, Stewart, and Mrs. Poe, I know your hearts are broken and I send my deepest condolences and will keep you in my prayers.Joyce

  3. Glen, I'm sorry Brandi and I didn't find out what happened until after the funeral was over. My prayers are with you, Bryan and Stewart and their families. I didn't visit with Cathy as much as I would have liked, I will never forget her and her positive attitude. The pain will be there ,but you will learn how to deal with it in time. I'll always remember how Larry Don would hide behind a door at the old police station and jump out and scare her. I can still see her face when he would scare her. Try to remember God always has a reason for everything that happens.

  4. Glenn, I pray for you and your family at this difficult time. I can not imagine what you and your family are going through now. Plese accept my sincere condolences.

  7. I can not begin to tell you how your loved one has made an impression in my life. At first she and I did not hit it off well. But as I got to know her and she I we became friends. She had even asked to employ me to sit with her mom and help take care of her. Of course her mom had other ideas. She always had a smile and made her business seem enjoyable although I know that she incontered some characters. Her leaving this world is a great loss but heavens gain. Some day we will see her again at the eastern gate.

  8. I remember Ms. Cathy and Boy Scouts, when Jared was little. She, also, gave me my first driver's test. I have fond memories of her and although I haven't seen her in some time; she will be missed. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers!

  9. I still cannot believe Cathy is gone. What a sweet cousin. I last saw her the afternoon before Julie's funeral-she was with Aunt Naomi and Diane. I knew that she and Julie communicated about the geneology of the Poe family. I'm shocked and saddened by her loss…

  10. Ms. Cathy was one of a kind and the sweetest person I have ever been friends with. I envy the love and wonderful relationship that her and Glen shared. I will truly miss her and will have the family in my prayers.

  11. To the Mears Family, My most sincere condolences during this time of such a great loss in each of your lives. Please remember how truly blessed your family has been to have such an angel in your lives. When Heavens rejoice with her arrival, I pray you find comfort in knowing this world is not the end. She will wait patiently for each of you to join her on the streets of gold. May God Bless each of you.
