Deola Guillory

January 19, 1932 ~ June 23, 2024

Deola Marie Johnson Guillory, 92, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024, in Lake Charles, LA. Born on January 19, 1932, in Basile, Louisiana, to Lawrence and Annie Johnson, Deola lived a life filled with love, faith, and dedication.

Growing up in Basile, Louisiana, Deola later married the love of her life, Wilfred Guillory. Together, they moved to Chloe, LA, and then settled in Lake Charles, where they built a beautiful life. Deola worked in many local school cafeterias and retired as the Cafeteria Manager at F.K. White Middle School. She was a devoted and faithful member of St. Margaret Catholic Church until 1991, and thereafter, she attended Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Her commitment to her Catholic faith was evident through her active participation in the Catholic Daughters, her unyielding prayer life, and the many candles she lit for others.

A loving wife and mother, Deola found immense joy in her family. Her home was often filled with the warmth of home-cooked meals, laughter, and love. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and spending time with her loved ones. Deola and Wilfred shared many cherished evenings dancing to French music at the VFW Hall, their laughter and joy often resonating with those around them.

Deola’s memory will be forever cherished by her five children, Robert Guillory (Diana), Margie Newman, Deborah Guillory Gore (Ivy, deceased), Dianna Boykin (Scott) and Peggy Taylor (Edward); her grandchildren, Tracey Boyd, Ashley Shelden, Chantel Brown, Keith Gore, Kyle Gore, John Scott Boykin, Alex Boykin, Gray Taylor, and Annie Taylor; her fourteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 50 years, Wilfred Guillory; her parents; her brothers, Allen, Odeus, Anthony, and Curley P. Johnson; her sister, Melina Conner; her daughter, Dianna Guillory Boykin; and her two grandsons, Bobby Guillory, and Chad Newman.

    • Prayers for all of y’all especially Chantel Brown and Debbie Gore may God be with you all 🙏🙏

  1. Candle 3I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my grandaunt Dee. I had lost contact with her over the past seven years. The last time I saw her was in 2017 when I treated her to lunch at Southern Spice Restaurant, where we enjoyed a pleasant meal. It’s a shame that people don’t visit much anymore. I was a close friend of her grandson, Chad Newman, who passed away before her. I fondly recall enjoying her gumbo and playing the Cajun card game Bouree’with her during Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas holidays. My heartfelt condolences to her loved ones and friends. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.

  2. Candle 3My heart is heavy with grief over the sad news of my darling Dee-Dee. I am a former sister-in-law & I always visited & spent 1-2 weeks with her in LC (My hometown). I love her and will miss my visits with her. May the Blessed Lord and Mary take good care of Dee-Dee. Love Freda Bellon Moraros
