Donald R. Faulk

Donald R. Faulk, 88, of Iowa, died on March 14, 2023, in a local hospice care center. He was born on October 4, 1934 to Ellie Florin and Maude Ramke Faulk in Rayne, LA.

He lived most of his life in Lake Charles. Before and during his high school years he delivered papers for the Lake Charles American Press. After his graduation from LaGrange Senior High School he served his country honorably in the United States Navy for six years. After his discharge in 1960 he started work as a truck driver for Haliburton and later Exxon.

Using his truck driving experience, he worked as a Terminal Manager for various companies, including Matlack, Stephens Truck Lines and MDS.

Mr. Faulk spent thirty-five years working in law enforcement, first at the Ward Three Marshal’s Office and later as a deputy for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office. His last twenty years at the Sheriff’s Office were spent working on the funeral escort detail.

He is survived by his daughter, Debra Nugent and her husband Irvin of Iowa, LA; two granddaughters, Kayla Grant and her husband Austin, and Karen Sullivan and her husband Justin and a great grandchild, Sutton Sullivan; his sister, Margie Peveto of Sulphur, and his brother, Bobby Wayne Faulk of Tyler, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Vera Jean Hogan Faulk, his sister, Gloria Faye Cannon and his parents.

His funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday March 17, 2023 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor John Louviere will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and will resume on Friday morning at 9:00 AM and continue until the start of the service at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The River Church, (Building Fund or Bible Fund), 5654 Gerstner Memorial Dr, Lake Charles, LA 70607.  Memorial donations may also be made to the veteran’s organization of choice.
