Edith H. Guillory, 84, passed away on March 28, 2023. She was born on October 16, 1938, in Lake Charles, LA, to George and Florence Duhon Hollier.
Edith was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles, LA residing in the Prien Lake Community. She graduated from Washington High School and Sowela Technical School. Edith worked for the State of Louisiana, retiring from the Department of Family Services. She was a founding member of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. Edith authored the original “History of St. Martin de Porres Chapel,” and was selected as a member of the original Building Commission helping to spearhead the building of the new St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church building.
Those left to cherish her memory are daughters, Tina Higgins (Troy DeRouen) of Lake Charles and Tammie Higgins of Houston, TX; grandsons, Quincy Higgins and Dr. Donald Higgins (Sierra); as well as great-grandchildren, Mason Higgins, Noah Higgins, and Maya Higgins. She is also survived by a host of extended family and friends who will miss her loving and feisty demeaner.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Paul Higgins; children Joseph Higgins, Donald Higgins, Carla Higgins, and Gary Higgins; her second husband, Louis Guillory; as well as her sisters, Elaine LeDay and Elender LeCompte.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon on Monday, April 3, 2023 at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. Msgr. Jace Eskind will serve as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will be at the church on Monday morning from 9:30 until the start of the mass, with a rosary being recited at 11:30 AM.
