Edsel Ray Stanley, 77, of Starks, Louisiana died on Sunday, April 3, 2011 in his residence.
Mr. Stanley was a life long native of Starks, Louisiana. He loved the outdoors and especially loved hunting, fishing and gardening. In his spare time he loved listening to Blue Grass Music and attending Blue's festivals. Mr. Stanley served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by two brothers Edgar Stanley of Starks, LA, and Jasper Stanley of Vidor, TX, three sisters Frankie Brandon of Buna, TX, Carrie Belle Williams and Martha Marie Johnson both of Devils Pocket, TX, many nieces and nephews.
Edsel is preceded in death by his parents Pearl and Willie Locket Stanley, one brother Charley Stanley and one sister Willie Mae Statum.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the First Pentecostal Church in Starks. Rev. Greg Frazier will officiate. Burial will be in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Starks, Louisiana under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 8:00 AM this morning at the Emily O'Brian Center and will start again at 11:00 AM in the church.
There will never be another Shorty. What a great friendly man. We calledhim our Neighborhood Watch Dog. He came through our yard several times a day on his 4-weeler going to check on Sis. Cooter. We will miss our Homeland Security as we called him.
