Edward Carl Whitley

August 21, 1927 ~ May 27, 2011

Carl went home to be with our Lord and Savior at the age of 83 on May 27, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born on August 21, 1927 in Letohatchee, Alabama and was a life long resident of Moss Bluff, LA .

He and his wife Peggy Muckelrath Whitley were blessed to have enjoyed 52 wonderful years of marriage together.

Carl proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was also blessed to retire from Bell South in 1985 after 32 years of service. Spending time with family and friends, building porch swings and time at Toledo Bend were some of Carl's favorite past times. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Moss Bluff where he spent his life serving the Lord and helping others. He was a great example of the Lord's love as a father, grandfather, great grandfather and father-in-law. He was "our hero and mentor"! There was never a day that went by that he did not say "thank you Lord for the good life".

He was preceded in death by his parents, David Cleveland and Ruth Williams Whitley; three brothers, David C. Whitley, Jack Whitley and Robert Whitley; and one sister, Jean Beach.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his loving wife, Peggy Whitley, Moss Bluff; one daughter, Wanda Faul and husband Ronnie of Katy, TX; three sons, Blake Whitley and wife Cindy, Moss Bluff; Lee Whitley and wife Tina, Grand Lake; Lon Whitley and wife Diane, Moss Bluff; one sister, Katherine Pottorf, Sulphur Bluff, TX; eight grandchildren, Travis Faul, Brent Faul, Kelly Whitley, Garrett Whitley, Brittney Salisbury, Lauren Whitley, Jonathan Whitley, and Brady Whitley; five great-grandchildren, Marleigh Faul, Ava Faul, Mason Faul, Noah Faul, and Emmanuel Salisbury; and a host of other family and friends.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the "Missions Fund" or "Building Fund" of First Baptist Church of Moss Bluff.

Services will be Monday, May 30, 2011, at 2 PM at First Baptist Church in Moss Bluff.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 29 from 4 PM to 7 PM at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Monday at 1 PM at the church with The Rev. Shawn Thomas and James Rivers officiating. Burial will be at Ritchie Cemetery
