Erwin Poulter

Erwin Poulter, 89, of Lake Charles died at 11:30 PM Friday, July 16, 2010 in a local care facility.


Mr. Poulter was born in Waxahachie, Texas and moved to Lake Charles in 1947. He was a 1940 graduate of Denison High School and attended North Texas State Teachers College. He served in the United States Army Air Force as a Corporal and was a Nose Arial Gunman during World War II, flying missions from Italy. Mr. Poulter retired from Augenstein Construction Company as an Iron Worker Superintendant after 27 years of work. He was a member of the Iron Workers Local # 710 and a member of the Justice Lodge #449. He was Baptist by faith. If ever anyone needed help, he was always there.


He is survived by his wife of 63 years Helen Poulter of Lake Charles, daughter Linda Poulter Venable of Lake Charles, one son Dale Poulter and wife Susan of Park City, Utah, two grandchildren Christa Smith and husband Sean of Park City, Utah, and Greg Poulter and wife Brenda of Breckinridge, Colorado, three great Grandchildren Marley Smith, Griffin Smith and Dominic Poulter, one sister Janey Moore of Durant, Oklahoma.


Erwin is preceded in death by his parents Carrie and Roy Poulter, sister Cleo Miller, brothers Roy, Ralph, Earl and twin brother Edwin Poulter.


His funeral will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 1:00 PM from the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Johnny Harrell will officiate. Burial will be in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Wednesday at 3 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue at 8:00 AM until the time of services.


Pallbearers will be Shawn Duhon, Frank Tatum, Chris and Steve Todd, Greg Poulter and Sean Smith. Honorary pallbearer will be Larry Augenstein.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the ICU staff at Christus St. Patrick Hospital, nurse's Toni and Rebecca, the staff at Extended Care, and Dr's. Craig Broussard and Dr. Ron Lewis for all of their care.

In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Lung Association and to St. Jude's Children Hospital in Memphis, TN.

  1. Erwin Was a good man and, will always be the same in our hearts. just know that we only have good memories of what a loving, good natured person he was. May God give you all peace.

  2. Helen and family……We are so sorry to hear about Mr. Poulters passing. He certainly had a long and full life. Always on the go. The neighborhood will miss seeing him walking. I hope you take comfort in knowing he is at peace in heaven with our Lord. My sisters Julie, Laura, Sheri and nephews Jared Lee, Chanse and I will keep you and your family in our prayers.   3. Linda Kay, and Mrs. Helen, I want to send you my most deepest sympathy to your lost of a great man, Erwin and I spent a many a day on the golf course and he really showed me a lot. Always had a kind heart but was always truthful with me on my golf swing lol. I am honored that I was able to spend time alone with him years ago.
