Eugene Anthony “Gene” Richard, 93, of Moss Bluff passed away at 11:00 PM on Friday, September 2, 2022 in the comfort of his own home.
Mr. Richard was born on September 18, 1928 in Vinton, LA and was raised in Lake Charles where he was a graduate of Landry High School. He furthered his education at Loyola University in New Orleans and later attended the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO where he graduated with a degree in pharmacy. Following graduation, Mr. Richard was drafted into the military and served our country in the US Navy. He was honorably discharged and began his career as a pharmacist in Lake Charles for several local pharmacies before working in the pharmacy at Christus St. Patrick’s Hospital for the next 30 years and earned the title of Director. Mr. Richard retired but continued to work part time for pharmacies in the area.
He spent his spare time caring for and showing his horses in horse shows. Mr. Richard also enjoyed spending time on the water as well as in the air as a pilot.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 70 years, Carolyn Evans Richard of Moss Bluff; children, Gregory E. Richard (Sandra) of Moss Bluff, Douglas A. Richard (Debbie) of the state of Iowa, Susan Richard of Ragley, and Lisa Smith (David) of Watson, LA; seven grandchildren; and twenty great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Z.B. and Elizabeth Richard and his siblings, Marie Hebert, Irma Phillips, Helen Granger, Hugh Richard, and Anna Bell Manielle.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel in Moss Bluff. Father Aubrey Guilbeau will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM and continue until the start of the service with a rosary being recited at 1:00 PM.
