Irvie LaVergne McFarlain

Irvie M. LaVergne McFarlain, age 87, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2011, at her residence in Lake Charles.


She was a member of The VFW Ladies' Auxillary and the CFMA. She retired after several years of service as a cafeteria worker at College Oaks Elementary School. Ms. McFarlain enjoyed life to the fullest and will be missed by her family and friends. Preceding her in death was her husband, William Lee McFarlain, Sr., a son, William Lee McFarlain, Jr., and her three sisters, Verley Theriot, Alice Gaspard, and Edith LaVergne.


Survivors include her two sons, Nelson McFarlain and Malcolm McFarlain and wife, Denise all of Tallahassee, FL; her daughter, Belva McFarlain of Lake Charles; seven grandchildren, Brandon, Bethany, Barrett, and Malcolm McFarlain, Jr.; and four great-grandchildren, Tori Papania.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Christ The King Catholic Church. Father Wayne LeBleu will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 18, from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. and again on Saturday, from 8 a.m. until time of service. A rosary will be prayed Friday evening at 7 p.m.

  1. I am so sorry for your loss. I regret missing the funeral. Ms. LaVergne will surely be missed by all. She was such a loving and caring person.

  2. I am so sorry to hear of Mrs Irvie's passing. I loved her very much. She will be missed. An Angel was called home yesterday (3/17) and I know that her departed loves ones, as well as my Daddy were there to greet her!

  3. I KNEW IRVIE WELL FOR I AM ALSO A LIFE TIME MEMBER OF THE LADIES AUX POST 2130. MY MOTHER AND FATHER WAS FRANCE AND WIDLY GASPARD. WE HAD MANY FUN TIMES TOGETHER. I AM SENDING PRAYERS AND STRENGTH TO THE FAMILY. I AM SORRY I JUST FOUND OUT TODAY AND WAS SADDENED. BLESSINGS AND LOVE TO ALL IN YOUR TIME OF SORROW

  4. Irvie was my biological grandmother I met her when i was 16. I only got to visit with her a few times and she was very sweet. She had also met my kids and welcomed them in to her home. She will be missed

  5. So sorry for the loss. I just met Ms. Irvie last year, 2010. She is my biological grandmother and I has not seen her since I was very young. She was very welcoming and made me feel like a part of the family. My thoughts and prayers go out to the whole family even though I do not know you all.
