James Ernest Felts

April 7, 1925 ~ July 14, 2016

James E. “Jimmy” Felts went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 14, 2016 at the age of 91.


Born on April 7, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan to James & Connie Felts he moved to Texas at an early age. He joined the U.S. Merchant Marines the day after his high school graduation and returned to Texas after his service in WWII, living and working there until his retirement to Comanche, Texas. He moved to Lake Charles, LA a few years ago to be closer to his family and to fight his battle with Alzheimers disease.


He is survived by his son, Bruce Felts and wife Tami of Lake Charles, LA; granddaughter, Ashley Felts Perry and husband Christian of Lake Charles, LA; grandson, Blake Felts and wife Rachael of Abbeville, LA; Also surviving is his son, Farrell Felts and grandson Scott; granddaughters, Carrie Green, Shana Moreland, Kim Gentry along with; 6 great grandchildren; numerous nieces; and nephews also survived him.

Mr. Felts is also survived by his sister, Mary Dorchester of Midland, Texas.


He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Debra Bradford Felts and daughter Annette Felts Larrabee; his parents, James and Connie Felts; second wife, Nancy Melton Felts; and numerous brother and sister in-laws.


Jimmy loved to hunt, fish, and play golf. He was active in the community serving as school board member, square dance caller, youth baseball officer and coach, usher in the Baptist church in Comanche, and president of the Comanche Art Club. After retirement he became an accomplished artist, producing many paintings that adorn houses and various businesses today. He was an accomplished athlete in his younger days, boxing Golden Gloves and quarterbacking a state junior championship team. One of his proudest accomplishments was working for 35 years for the same company and never missing a day of work due to sickness.


He will be remembered as a loving, kind, and humorous husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. The family would like to thank the staff at Stonebridge Assisted Living in Sulphur, LA for their love and kindness exhibited towards him in these last few years while he fought his battle with Alzheimers. Visitation will be at Johnson’s Funeral Home in Lake Charles, LA on Saturday, July 16, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Graveside services will be conducted in Big Spring, Texas at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 17, 2016 under the direction of Nalley-Pickle-Welch funeral home at Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association.
