Jean Goforth Braswell

Jean Elizabeth Goforth Braswell, 98, of Richmond, Texas, formerly of Lake Charles, passed away peacefully on Friday July 28, 2023.

Jean was a native and longtime resident of the Lake Charles area. She graduated from Lake Charles High School in 1942 and retired as a secretary from the McGraw-Hill company. Jean enjoyed bowling and was a member of the “200” club and was on several leagues throughout the years. She also enjoyed swimming, biking, and spending time with her family. She was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church of Lake Charles. 

Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edwin Reed Braswell; parents, Reuben Preston and Clara Epler Goforth; and a daughter, Nancy Jean Braswell Mattsen. Those left to honor and cherish her memory are her son, Richard Reed Braswell, Katy, TX; granddaughter, Morgan Elyse Braswell and Brittany Lee Braswell, both of Katy, TX; grandson, Brandon Reed Braswell, Austin, Texas; great grandsons, Cameron Ponton and Jaxson Jozwiak; nephews, Charles and Myron Goforth and numerous cousins and extended family of the heart. 

A gathering of family and friends will begin at 1:00 PM on Saturday August 5, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles followed by a celebration of her life at 2:00 PM. Interment will be at a later date beside her best friend and love of her life in the family plot at Graceland Cemetery in Lake Charles.
