John Gordon Herr, Sr., 76, of Lake Charles, LA died at 2:45 PM on Thursday, November 4, 2010 in a local hospital.


Mr. Herr was born January 20, 1934 in Lake Charles, LA, where he has been a lifelong resident. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Cities Service / Butyl Rubber Company as an operator. He was an active member and deacon of Sale Street Baptist Church. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Mr. Herr loved spending time with his family and his hobbies were fishing, hunting, wood working, and his church.


Mr. Herr is survived by his wife, Lorene Jett Herr; children, Cindy Lehn, DeeDee and Mark Crow, Janet and Carl Hoffpauir, Nancy and Merlin Johnice, Katie and Mike Wing, and John and Angie Herr, all of Lake Charles; sister, Margaret "Ann" Lyons; grandchildren, Justin and Sara Crow, Kelley and Mandy Crow, Cameron Crow, Chelsey and Justin Bertrand, Vincent Wing, Amanda Lehn, Blaire Herr, Baylee Herr; great-grandchildren, Aaden and Emma Grace Crow and Beckett Bertrand; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Augustus and Margaret Herr; brother, A.C. "Art" Herr; and his granddaughter, Brooke Herr.


His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Ernest Walker will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Sunday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
