John Lawrence "Boo" Riche'

July 11, 1948 ~ November 15, 2023

John Lawrence “Boo” Riche’, 75, of Lake Charles, passed away November 15, 2023, in Katy, TX, surrounded by family. Boo, as he was lovingly called, was born on July 11, 1948, in Cottonport, LA, to Lawrence and Nellie Riche’. He was raised in Cottonport until 1966, when he enrolled at USL. He was later drafted to serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1970.
After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, Boo became an oilfield inspector. He continued his career as an Allstate Insurance Agent for 15 years, and then became a residential and commercial contractor with Castillo Brother’s until his final days. Boo was truly a jack of all trades, and he was the definition of a coonass engineer!
Boo was an avid sports fan that loved to pull for the LSU Tigers on Saturday and the New Orleans Saints on Sunday after church. His real passion was to catch the Sulphur Tors beat the Barbe Bucs. If you asked him where he grew up, his response would be, “I am a Sport from Cottonport,” where he played football, basketball and rode his horse.
Boo’s highlight every year was the 4th of July week at Toledo Bend for the family reunion. All he had to worry about was how many fishing trips he could squeeze into one week and being with his family. He also loved his church family, Bible Study Fellowship friends and his fishing buddies.
It is an understatement to say that he was loved and respected by all, especially coworkers, his best friends growing up, his next-door neighbor, and his family, both biologically and by marriage, who have been his lifelong friends.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 44 years, the love of his life, Lynda Lantrip Riche’, son; Kevin Lawrence Riche’, grandchildren; Kaylee, Kori and Kenli Riche’ and their loving mother Heather Riche’.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and son; William Andrew “Andy” Riche’.
A gathering of family and friends will begin at 9:30A.M. until service time at 11:00A.M., Monday, November 20, 2023, at Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake St., Lake Charles, LA. 70605. Guestbook

  1. So sorry for the family. I pray for y’all to have peace in your hearts as we know he followed Christ to heaven.

  2. How do you describe Boo? He loved his family and was so proud of them. A good man, a kind man, and a loving man. He could tell a story like nobody else. Keith and Boo were fishing buddies but mostly just good friends. Our hearts are broken for Lynda and Kevin. I’m sure Boo and Andy are together and they have found another pond in heaven and are catching the big one.
“Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen” Love, Keith and Joan

  3. We will miss Boo so much. So many great memories we have with Boo and family. Our kids were always with the Riche‘s roaming the neighborhood, playing ball, fishing, swimming, or just walking in the woods. Boo was always right in the middle of any activity the boys were involved. We will always remember and cherish those special memories. Our prayers are with you Lynda, Kevin and family during this time of great loss.
With our deepest sympathy, The Coniglio’s
Roy, Mary, Matt, Tony, and Erika
