Kermith Roy Sonnier, Sr.

July 30, 1947 ~ May 28, 2024

Kermith Roy Sonnier, Sr. 76, of Lake Charles, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at a hospital in Lafayette.  Kermith was born in Basile on July 30, 1947, to Simon and Leora Sonnier.  Kermith was a lifelong resident of Southwest Louisiana and enjoyed all the outdoor opportunities that came with it.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children; Sherman “Bobo” Sonnier (Jody), Chad Sonnier (Stephanie), Cecelia Marcantel (Bobby), step son; Scott Skibo (Mari Fuselier), siblings; Louise Stelly (Michael), Phillip Sonnier (Tonie), Kathaleen Hooper (Gerald), 9 grandchildren; Benji Collins, Steven Collins, Courtney Jellots, Pyper Sonnier, Jeremy Corrigan, Hunter Skibo, Hailey Skibo, Kaleigh Courville, Tabitha Courville, 4 greatgrandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; Betty Sonnier, son; Kermith Sonnier, Jr., brother; Freddie Sonnier and great grandson; Bentley Collins.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 2, 2024, from 2:00PM until 8:00PM with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00PM at Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake St. Lake Charles, LA. 70605.  Visitation will continue Monday, June 3, 2024, from 9:00AM until 10:30AM also at the funeral home.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Monday, June 3, 2024, at 11:00AM at St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church, 5495 Elliott Rd. Lake Charles, LA. 70605.  Burial will follow the Mass at Consolata Cemetery.

  2. I’m so sorry for your loss. Kermith was a good friend of mine. He gave me medals and his book. He will be sorely missed. I still can’t believe he’s gone. Aurevoir Mon bon ami!

    I delivered mail to his office on Kirkman Street for a number of years, always glad when there was hot boudin or donuts! He shared his faith and personal stories of loss and inspiration.
    Kermith was the real thing. I regard his life and memory very highly.
