Mr. Leroy "Sonny" Stokeld Jr., 84, went to meet his loving wife in Heaven Saturday, October 29, 2011. He was a native of Elizabeth and a resident of Lake Charles.
Sonny was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church for 60 years where he was an usher for 30 years for 6PM Saturday mass. He was a member and teacher for Plumbers Local 106 and owned Sonny's Heating and Plumbing. Sonny was also a member of L.A.R.K.S. for 20 years, and served in the Army during WWII, stationed in the Philippines.
His greatest love in life was spending time with his family. Many would know him as the Hershey candy bar man. He enjoyed giving candy bars to all who helped him. His pasttime was writing poems and short stories. Sonny will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his three children, Wayne "Danny" Stokeld, David Stokeld and wife Margaret, Linda Christian and husband Byron all of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Chad Christian of Austin, TX and Amanda Christian of Lake Charles; two sisters, Betty Hebert and Patsy Domingues Gaspard both of Lake Charles.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Rosa Mae Stokeld; parents, Leroy Stokeld Sr. and Minnie McGee Stokeld; and brother, Earl "Bob" Stokeld.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 10AM at Johnson Funeral Home. Father Bill Miller and Deacon Dan Landry will officiate. Burial will follow at Prien Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin Tuesday from 5PM-9PM with a scripture service and rosary at 6:30PM. Visitation will continue Wednesday from 8AM until time of service.
