Louella Marie Fontenot

Louella Marie Fontenot, 86, of Lake Charles passed away Thursday, August 18, 2016 in a local healthcare facility.

 

Mrs. Fontenot was born in Chatagnier, LA and lived 69 years in Lake Charles. She loved to cook - rice and gravy, gumbo and cakes were her specialties. She enjoyed French music and dancing and traveling with her husband throughout the States, London, Spain and Morocco.    She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, Ladies Altar Society and the Funeral Choir. Mrs. Fontenot served 56 years in the Catholic Daughters at St. Margaret's and Our Lady Queen of Heaven parishes.  She also enjoyed working at Crossroads Bookstore.  Mrs. Fontenot will be most remembered for her love and devotion to her family, her generosity and her smile.

 

She leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Carl Fontenot of Ragley, Donald Fontenot and wife Cheryl and Paul Fontenot of Lake Charles; one daughter, Sandy Rowe and husband Harold of Houston, TX; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Pierré “Boo” Fontenot of Jennings and one aunt, Cathy Fruge of Lake Charles.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-seven years, Ira J. Fontenot, her parents, Moise and Dolvina Fruge Fontenot and her brother, Norman Fontenot.

 

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 1:00 PM Monday, August 22, 2016 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Father Matthew Cormier will officiate.  Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery.  Visitation Sunday will be from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a Catholic Daughter rosary beginning at 6:00 PM.  Visitation Monday will be from 8:00 AM until 12:45 PM in the funeral home.

  2. So sorry for your loss at this time. I was at the nursing home with my mother in law in March and I saw your mom. Recognized her right off Still as beautiful as ever!! She did not recognize me but it sure did bring a ray of light to my heart and a flash of our families in 17th street! Love to all of you guys.
