Luke Hedlesky

September 16, 1986 ~ October 30, 2023

Luke Hedlesky, 37, passed away on October 30, 2023. He was born on September 16, 1986, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to Steven Hedlesky and Dianna Lynn Dearden.

Luke was a skilled warrior, gardener, and fisherman alike. A kind soul, a patient father, and a caring friend. He served honorably in the line of duty when called upon, both in combat overseas and in the civilian world.

Unfortunately the traumas one may face in the civilian world combined with the terrors of war and addiction have claimed many great men as well as men with flaws.

He had made mistakes in his life, but he himself was never a mistake, and he was always worthwhile.

Let us always remember that he was more than a man with flaws who made mistakes, but rather a loving father, brother, and son. A fishermen and a good man torn between the life of a warrior in a garden and the life of a gardener kept at war. He had lost his path along the way, only now to have found his way home.

He will be missed, is loved, and what life lessons he had to offer will be taken with us.

Those left to cherish his memory are his parents Steven Hedlesky and Dianna Lynn Dearden, his siblings Drew Hedlesky; Wade Hedlesky; Taylor Hedlesky; Andrew Hedlesky, Philip Hedlesky; Emily Hedlesky, his son Trevor Hedlesky, and his girlfriend Bianca Renee Fowler.

He was preceded in death by his Grandfather Mike Hedlesky, his Grandmother Wanda Hedlesky, his Uncle David Hedlesky, and his Uncle Michael Hedlesky.

A Memorial Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, November 6, 2023 in the Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles Chapel, located at 4321 Lake Street, Lake Charles, LA. Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.

Guestbook

  1. Candle 1Damn good kid. Think about him all the time have one of his dad‘s ER room lights. Many times I wanted to go down there and see if he wanted it and if he needed anything

  2. Candle 1Luke was my son’s roommate and best friend. Luke was at our house all the time and always checked out what was on the stove. He was always taking up for me when Sidney would give me a hard time. He was a great comfort to me when we lost Sidney and honored him by carrying him. Luke was a fine young man and he will be greatly missed. Will keep family in our prayers

  3. Luke had a special place in my heart. Good kid, your pain and struggles are over . Rest my friend. Prayers. Love and strength to family.

  4. Candle 1If only Luke had seen what an amazing creature he was. Very rarely do souls as genuine as his come along. I will miss our middle of the night chats, how patient and kind you always were, how you knew how to articulate things when others struggled. I still can’t believe you are gone. You made such an impact on our lives in such a short amount of time. Donnie, Phoenyx, and I will love and miss you dearly. I hope you found peace.

  5. Candle 4Luke is my best guy friend and I will forever miss him! He was such an amazing man, the greatest friend I could ever ask for! He was a great father and he definitely loved his son with everything in him! I still have a hard time processing that this is all real, I just want to message or call him and I can’t! I will forever love you my friend until we meet again!

  6. Candle 4Lynn and Steve, I am so sorry for the death of your son. This must come as a horrible shock. Be proud of his service to his country and his gentle spirit evidenced in the previous comments. Much love, Barb and John Coleman

  7. Candle 1Luke was my daughter’s best friend when she was with us. Friends from middle school. They helped each other so much through many of life’s difficulties through a lot of pain in life. I remember as a young teen He would call her when he was going through things and they would end up laughing and always would say I love you my friend before hanging up. He always was a shoulder to lay your burdens upon and she would say that he could turn a gray sky blue. When she left this world he was there for me and my family. He helped with her other friends to raise money for her funeral and her kids. I have nothing but glowing respect for this man a friend to all a listening ear. Oh dear sweet Luke rest easy in Heaven hug our girl for me rejoice in the reunion with one of your besties.

  8. Candle 2Luke was an amazing man who was there for everyone. I’m going to miss our talks and him liking my posts. Fly high luke we all love u and will miss u

  9. Candle 1Whoa! I hate to read this. I met Luke in high school and while we lost traditional contact in person, we kept up on social media.

I remember luke, being a kind person and I know he loves his son.

My condolences to his family. This hurts my heart.

  10. Luke is one of the most honorable, kind and oh so lovable people I have ever had the honor of knowing. He was a fierce protector of those he loved. I have never experienced before him the joy of watching my daughter and granddaughter flourish in his presence and love. I miss you so much. We love you.

  11. Candle 2I met Luke in Highschool. We went to our Freshman Homecoming together, and we had last period Algebra.
We lost contact with each other over the years post graduation, but this is still a shock.
    You will be missed.

  12. Candle 2I am very shocked to hear the news. Luke is my nephew—fond visits of him during my visits to the South. “He (God) heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” – Psalm 147:3. Lord, please heal the family and friends who have suffered a great loss.

  13. Candle 1I am so sorry for you loss. I remember teaching Luke when he was a little guy. I know he became a man you were proud of. You are all in my thought and prayers.

  14. I got to know Luke years ago thru my daughter. He was such a kind soul and would help me with anything that needed attended to. I lost contact thru the years.
So sorry for your loss and you are all in my prayers

  15. Candle 3Luke, you were the light of my life, my best friend, and my soulmate. We were inseparable and you were so good with Evvi, like she was your own. We had so many adventures and I will always love you. I truly hope you’re in a better place and at peace now. You were truly one of the good ones, my love. Until we meet again..

  16. Candle 1Thank u for your service may u finally be at peace in our heavenly Father’s kingdom my thoughts and prayers are with u and your family and friends AMEN 🙏

  17. Candle 1Luke was a caring man, a rescuer. Even in his darkest storm, he still had enough love within to help others who also live with mental health issues due to life’s tragic situations.
We are not born with “flaws”. Flaws are what we develop in order to survive with daily life the best way we know how. It’s not a choice, it’s a burden. Though you will be terribly missed, I hope you finally are at peace.
    Fly free friend.

  18. Dear Family and Loved Ones of Luke Hedlesky. Am so sorry for your loss. Wish there were words to offer; words are inadequate. Our family ties go back years.

Holding Sacred Space for you in Heart during this time.

  19. Ms. Lynn, my heart breaks for you. Please know that Luke will never be forgotten. His service and love for others will live on. May your memories bring a smile to your face when you think of him. Till Valhalla Brother.

  20. Candle 2There was no word. I just found out. God I miss you. You were always there for me. I’m so sorry life was too much. I know you were hurting for so long. I’m glad your pain is over. I love you.
