Mary Audell Nugent

Mary Audell Nugent, 65, of Gillis died on Saturday, May 14, 2011 in her residence.


Mrs. Nugent was born in Deridder on October 2, 1945. She lived in Lake Charles until moving to the Moss Bluff/Gillis area 25 years ago. Mrs. Nugent was a bookkeeper for Walgreens. She retired after more than 38 years of hard work and dedication. She had a strong, unconditional love for her family. Mrs. Nugent enjoyed spending time with family as well as cooking and gardening.


Mary will be missed dearly by all who knew her.


Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 45 years, Michael Nugent of Gillis; two children, Bradley Hagan and wife Karen of Moss Bluff and Maurice Nugent of Lake Charles; her mother, Evelyn Cooley of Lake Charles; eight grandchildren, Brandon Hagan and wife Brandy of Dry Creek, Corey Hagan and wife Leah of Moss Bluff, Alicia Hagan of Moss Bluff, T.J. Monceaux of Lake Charles, Michael Preston and wife Jessie and Ryan Preston all of Shreveport; and Drake and Kade Nugent both of Lake Charles; four great grandchildren, Benjamin, Brycelyn, Michaela, and Gracin Hagan; two brothers, Larry Cooley and wife Betty of Lake Charles and Sherman Cooley and wife Gloria of Moss Bluff; and a sister, Frankie Pilcher of Lake Charles.


She was preceded in death by a daughter, Belinda Hagan Preston; and her father, Maurice Cooley.


Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, May 16, 2011 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Her nephew, Rev. Brett Cooley, will officiate. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery in Deridder. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will continue on Monday from 8:00 AM until time of services.

  3. MY SISTER MARILYN AND I WERE IN A SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS WITH MARY AND HER HUSBAND YEARS AGO AT BRO. TREECE'S CHURCH, THIS CLASS WAS TAUGHT BY BRO. COOLEY, MARY'S DAD. I DIDN'T KNOW MARY PERSONALLY BUT I DO HAVE LOVING AND FOND MEMORIES OF HER PARENTS. MY HEART GOES OUT TO HER FAMILY, ESPECIALLY HER MOTHER, SIS. COOLEY.

She's now cooking in heaven as she did down here. This woman was so unselfish that even though she was sick she still cooked for us when Troy and I were down, not very long ago. We'll miss you Ms Mary!
