Aunt Maxine was an amazing role model for me as a kid growing up. I could feel her energy whenever she was around me, and I could tell she lived her life to the fullest every day. She just relished life! She would talk with me and listen to me unlike most other adults. She was never unkind and had a MARVELOUS laugh that came right from the center of her being. I found her so interesting as an adult and wanted to be like her with interests such as the arts and theater. My favorite memory is when me and Mark and Aunt Maxine (was Vivian with us?) went to the Gulf to have a picnic on the beach and just goof off in the water. That was June of 1978. I will always love her very much.
I had a great childhood growing up on 9th Street across the street from the Rays. So many good memories and Maxine and all the Rays were a big part of them. I will say that I probably would enjoy her greek cooking more now than I did back then! All of the Ashworths offer our heartfelt condolences at this time.
I remember having a wonderful Greek Feast at Maxine's home. A lot of dishes i had never had before and she made little menu's for each place setting, i still have mine somewhere. I remember her making those beatiful hooked rugs on a big frame in another room. My family and I had a wonderful time at her home that day. Wish i could be there to celebrate her life with my extended family. God Bless you all and Maxine, Rest in Peace!
ll the Ashworth family offer our heartfelt condolences and prayers at this time.
My deepest sympathy for your loss. Maxine was one of the greatest ladies I have ever known. The Ray family was a godsend for me and I am so glad I was able to share some time in their lives. I've missed Maxine for a long time now. Words cannot express deeply enough how grateful I was to have known her. I know she will be missed.

My husband and I would like to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of your beloved Maxine. We wanted to share with you something that brought us comfort at a similar time in our lives. John 11:14-44 shows us a wonderful example of what is to come-the resurrection-when Jesus resurrected Lazarus, here on earth, before the very eyes of those he loved. We can only imagine the tears of joy when we too, will be reunited with our dear loved ones again. (John 5:28,29) Until that time, draw comfort from the experiences you shared together and learn from them, hold them close to your hearts and cherish them. Do take care of yourselves and each other.
Our sympathy and thoughts are with all of you during this time. Dolores and I are very glad that we stopped by the house on 9th street during one of our infrequent trips back to LC. We did get to have a good visit with Maxine and husband Bill, and Mark. That is one thing I definitely remember about Maxine — she was a professional visiter. She and my mom could talk forever! But, I know they both enjoyed it. Maybe that's what's going on now. Take care — all of you.
When I was a child, I remember going to Lake Charles with my sister and brother to visit Grover and Dorothy (Maxine's parents)for the summer. Maxine came over to their house and we did fun crafts. She was a lot of fun and very creative! She will be remembered!
