Nolan S. Fontenot

Nolan S. Fontenot, 78, of Lake Charles died at 12:50 AM on Sunday, October 03, 2010 in a local hospital.


Mr. Fontenot was born in Basile, LA on November 24, 1931 and lived in Lake Charles since 1950. He was a graduate of Basile High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.


He retired from the Louisiana State Police Troop D after 21 years of service. During his service at Troop D he was able to attend McNeese State University eventually obtaining an Associates Degree in Electronics. He owned and operated Independent Radio and TV. Mr. Fontenot was a charter member of the Louisiana Trooper's Association (LSTA) and also a member of the Louisiana Peace Officer's Association.


He belonged to the National Rifle Association and was a Louisiana State Champion Master Sharp Shooter for three years. Mr. Fontenot was a former member of Carpenter's Local #953 and worked with his father and brother on the construction of the Interstate10/John Lafitte Bridge.


He was an avid camper, pool player, and motorcycle rider. He belonged to the Harley Owner Group (HOG) of Lake Charles.


Mr. Fontenot was a lay minister and long-time member of St. Margaret Catholic Church.


He is survived by his wife, Norma Dean Marie Ledger Fontenot of Lake Charles; four daughters, Carla F. David of Lake Charles, Bonnie F. Petree of Welsh, Christine F. Northcutt of Houma, Joni F. McMichael of Ragley: four sons, Retired Master Sergeant Michael D. Fontenot of Mililania, Hawaii, Jeffrey S. Fontenot, of Sulphur, Donald W. Fontenot of Portland, Oregon, Trooper First Class Daniel L. Fontenot of Lake Charles; one brother, Clayton Fontenot of Lake Charles and one sister, Charlotte Doise of Baton Rouge; twenty-three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.


His parents, Dewell and Ruby Manuel Fontenot, a brother Roland, a son Gary, and a granddaughter, Michelle preceded him in death.


Visitation will be at the funeral home from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Monday and from 8:00 AM until 12:30 PM on Tuesday. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Tuesday at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church. The Rev. Scott DesOrmeaux will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery. A Cursillo rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM Monday evening in the funeral home chapel.

  6. To Christine and family: I was so sorry to hear of Mr. Fontenot's passing. I was very fond of him. When I would come to your house or family get togethers he would always be very welcoming and make a point to have a nice chat. I liked checking out his motorcycles and will never forget how he took off with Daniel across the country on a motorcycle. Shocking and funny and cool at the same time. Our prayers are with you and your family.
