Ora Lee Ney

December 13, 1933 ~ July 21, 2010

Ora Lee John Ney, 76, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.


Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. July 24, at Johnson's Funeral Home in Lake Charles. Visitation will be Friday 4-9 p.m. with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, 12 p.m. to time of service. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetary in Lake Charles. Monsignor Charles DuBois and Rocky East will officiate.


Ora's passions were her family, cooking, gardening, traveling, bingo, bargain shopping and visiting the casino. Ora was a very outspoken lady and, you just had to love her.


She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, John Earle Ney of Lake Charles; 1 daughter Pamela DeLon Shields and husband David of Westlake; 3 sons, Mike DeLon of McMinville, Tennessee, Ricky DeLon and wife Lynne of Westlake, and John R. Ney and wife Rhonda of Westlake. Grandchildren Michelle Goodman, Siera Hobbs, Cherie DeLon, Danielle DeLon, Matthew Shields, Amanda Shields, Christian Ney, Cameron Ney, Tara DeLon, Myka DeLon Morales, Ricky Westbrook, Jeremy DeLon, and several great grandchildren.


Ora was preceded in death by her parents, Ora B. Paul, mother; Lee John Sr., father; two brothers, Frederick "Butch" John and Donald "Boo" John; one half-brother, Lee E. John Jr.; one son,Howard Lynn DeLon; and grandchild, Charity DeLon.


Her family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to Drs. R. Craig Broussard, Butch Maze, Robert Looney, and Heart of Hospice for their care and compassion during this difficult time.

  1. David and Pam, So sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you. It is very difficult to lose a parent having lost my father a year and a half ago. They are in a much better place, free of pain and at peace. Always cherish the memories.

  3. Mr.John and Mrs.Ora Lee lived next door to me when I was very young. I spent more time at their house, than I did my own. Even though I was young, I will never forget her kindness and compassion. She will be missed!
