Pamela McCall

Pamela Ann Truax McCall, 70, died peacefully in her home on Wednesday, November 24, 2010. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends. Pam had been courageously battling Alzheimer's since 2004.

Pam was a graduate of LaGrange High School Class of 1958. She graduated from LSU in 1961 with a degree in Family and Community Living. She devoted her life to her family and was active in community activities.

She was a member of Serra International and the Serra Club of Lake Charles; a Lady of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. She was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Lake Charles. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority.

Pam was formerly active in the American Association of University Women, Southwest Louisiana Bar Auxiliary and Liberty Bells. She was an avid tennis player. She entertained frequently and loved to cook and bake.

Pam had been a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church since the Parish was created in 1945.

Pam is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert C. (Bob) McCall and her four children, Michael Craig McCall (Damaris Delgado Vega) of Humacao, Puerto Rico; Sarah Canup (Chris) of Atlanta, Georgia; Chris McCall (Julie), and Erin Alley (Kevin) both of Lake Charles.

Pam's greatest fear in her journey with Alzheimer's was losing meaningful interaction with her nine grandchildren, Gabriela McCall Delgado, Michael McCall Delgado, Cameron Canup, Will Canup, Katie McCall, Emma McCall, Drew Alley, Blake Alley and Thomas Alley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmitt Roy Truax and Margery Mary Weimer Truax. She is also survived by her sister, Pat Rock (Larry) of Richmond, Virginia, brothers, Wayne Truax (Velva) and Johnnie Truax (Jane) both of Sulphur; brothers and sisters-in-law, Eleanor Henley (Ronnie), Kathy Screen (late husband Pat), both from Baton Rouge, Bill McCall (Nadine) and Kristy Rivers (Donald) both of Lake Charles.

The family wishes to thank her caring doctors, Maureen Kaough, Arthur Primeaux , Garrett Ryder and Rochelle Doody. She was lovingly cared for by Madelyn Walters, Helen Duriseau, Carman Hanchey and Joy Andrus. She had developed a deep friendship with her caregiver, Georgianna McGee. She was well cared for by the personnel of Odyssey Hospice. Special thanks go out for the skilled and loving care of her nurse, Michelle White.

Pallbearers will be her grandson, Michael McCall Delgado, and her nephews, Brian Henley, Scott Henley, Andrew McCall, Thomas McCall, Trey Rock, Jimmy Screen, Tommy Screen, Jason Truax and Todd Truax.

Funeral services will be handled by Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Friday, November 26, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. by Deacon Dan Landry. Visitation will continue at St. Margaret Catholic Church from 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2010 until the 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret Catholic Church, 2500 Enterprise Blvd., Lake Charles, Louisiana. Mass will be conducted by Father Bill Miller and assisted by Msgr. Harry Greig, Rev. Aubrey Guilbeau and Rev. Than Vu. Burial will be at Consolata Cemetery immediately following the mass.

Donations can be made to St. Margaret's School Trust Fund, Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice.

  4. Dear McCall Family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I have the happiest memories of time spent with your incredible wife/mother/grandmother. I remember her warm wonderful kitchen, fun road trips to BR and Florida. She was always up for shopping at Steinmart in your big silver van and she had the most beautiful smile and twinkly eyes. She was so very courageous these last few years . . and you were so steadfast and brave yourself. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family, as you pick up the pieces and work at getting on with your life. David and I will not be able to attend the service. I've just returned home from a lengthy and complicated treatment at MDAndersn, and cannot leave the house.
