Rita B. Miller

April 18, 1930 ~ June 16, 2023


Nelva Rita Barras Miller entered into the full presence of her Lord on Friday, June 16, 2023. Rita was born to Nola Marie and Sena Joseph Barras on April 18, 1930, in Catahoula, St. Martin Parish, La.  

Rita graduated from St. Martinville High School and Spencer Business College in Lafayette. She was formerly Retreat Captain for Ladies of OLQH Parish and former member of Lake Charles Legal Secretaries Association, The Lyceum, Arts Associates, Republican Women of Southwest La., and the French Mass Choir of the Cajun French Music Association.

Rita is survived by her children Gregory Steven Miller and wife Louise Guidry Miller, Nancy Miller Chehotsky, Peggy Miller Henry and husband Bob Henry, Mary Miller Cox and husband Charles Cox, and Patrick Martin Miller; her sisters, Zella Abrahams and Juanette Colby and husband Mike Colby; her grandchildren, Ruth Miller and husband Josh Levinger, Michael Fender, Thomas Chehotsky and wife Brooke Chehotsky, Nicholas Chehotsky, John Chehotsky and wife Alison Chehotsky,  Andrew Chehotsky, David Chehotsky, Katherine Cox Williams and husband Marvin Williams, and Jacob Cox; and her great-grandchildren, Hailey Fender, Ruby Chehotsky, Mason Chehotsky, Addison Chehotsky, Lillian Chehotsky, Lailah Chehotsky, Lucas Chehotsky, Silas Chehotsky, Gabriel Chehotsky, Lydia Williams, John Williams, Camille Williams, and Daniel Williams.

Rita was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Earl L. Miller, Jr., her son Philip Andrew Miller, and her brother, Dobbie Joseph Barras.

A celebration of Rita’s life will be held on Monday, June 19, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home.
