Sherrill Louise Lynch

August 9, 1947 — July 19, 2016

Sherrill Louise Lynch, 68, of Carlyss-Moss Lake, was called to her Heavenly Home on July 19, 2016.  Sherry was born August 9, 1947, in Lake Charles, Louisiana to the late Louis and Bernice “Bun” Schanz Lynch.  Others preceding her in death include Florence Schanz, Edna “Ted” Vincent (Holton Hardy), George Dale Schanz (Ruth), Jack Schanz, Sr. (Mildred), Sonny Schanz, Jackie Flo Schanz, David Owens and Brad Vincent.  A native of Louisiana, Sherry resided in Vinton and Moss Lake. She was a member of Welsh Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was an active participant in the congregation, serving on various committees throughout her life, such as pastor-parish relations and conference committees. Miss Lynch received a degree from USL, gaining a B.A. in foreign language.  For many years, Sherry worked at Levingston Shipyard in Orange, Texas, as a carpenter’s helper.  After working there, she began teaching secondary Spanish and French at Vinton High School.  She supported the athletes and worked at the extra-curricular activities of football, volleyball, and basketball games.  Vinton High was the center of her life and, as most teachers who truly care, she loved and counseled her students. Her students‘ successes became a vital part of her life, having pushed them because she cared enough to want them to do their very best.

Like her mother who was an educator, Miss Lynch belonged to Gamma Beta, Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary teachers’ society, serving in almost all of the official positions of the local chapter. When Miss Lynch retired and established permanent residence at her Moss Lake home, she transferred her fervor to taking care of her favorite critters, the house cats. She also visited and ate out with her friends in Vinton and provided homemade cookies to family and friends for holidays and special events.

Ms. Lynch is survived by first cousins: Ann Edmondson, David Edmondson, George Hardy Vincent (Nina), Dale Vincent (Elizabeth), Jack Schanz, Jr. (Dale), Edith Seefeld (Craig), Helen Owens.

A celebration honoring the life of Sherrill Louise Lynch will be held at Welsh Memorial United Methodist Church, in Vinton, Louisiana, on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 3:00 P.M., with visitation after the service in the church fellowship hall until 6:00 P.M.
