Sherry French Thornton

Sherry French Thornton, 79, of Lake Charles, passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023 in her son’s residence.

Mrs. Thornton was born in Lake Charles where she lived all of her life before moving to Corpus Christi to live with her family.  She was a graduate of LaGrange High School, and a proud member of the Gator Girls. Mrs. Thornton made a career as an accountant in various fields including Concord House Furniture.  She attended Christ Community Church.

She loved all arts and crafts especially scrapbooking, card making, cross stitching, and painting.

Those left to cherish her memory are a son, Michael Meacham (Sammie); stepsons, David and Kenneth Thornton (Jenny); stepdaughters, Nelda Jean Becnel and Janet McLendon (James); grandchildren, Katelyn Meacham, Kassidy Woodard (Robert), Shae Reilly, and Kelly Sachs; and a host of additional grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She also leaves behind a best friend, Shelly Conrad.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Thornton; daughter, Rebecca Meacham Reilly; stepson, Randy Thornton; parents, Dorothy and Neal French; and a brother, Jerry French.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 11, 2023 in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel.  Pastor Rick McClain will officiate.  Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens.  Visitation will begin on Friday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will resume on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Mrs. Thornton’s devoted caretaker, Narcie Alanis, and to the staff of Christus Spohn South Hospice in Corpus Christi for their exceptional care and compassion given to her.

She always had a smile to share and a creative tip to give. Appreciate her and Lee being honest examples to my husband and I.
