Shirley Mae Rhoden, 57, of Lake Charles died at 5:57 PM on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Rhoden was born on October 7, 1953 in Houston, TX and lived in Lake Charles for the past 25 years.
She enjoyed many things in life, including crafts, crocheting, and she was an amateur interior decorator. Mrs. Rhoden loved her family and enjoyed her time with her grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, David Rhoden of Lake Charles; two daughters, Mandie Yerrick and husband Aaron of Lake Charles and Shana Goocher and husband Eric of Willis, TX; two sisters, Glenda Roper and husband David of Kingwood, TX and Donna Childress of New York; a brother, Donald Guthrie and wife Janet of Humble, TX; six beloved grandchildren, Karisa and Dylan Jones, Kamryn and Evan Goocher, and Mackenzie and Johnathon Yerrick; and one great granddaughter, Sophia. She also leaves behind her extended family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Donald Guthrie and a son, Jamie.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 27, 2011 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Ronnie Estes will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will continue on Saturday from 8:00 AM until time of services.

Dear David and Family,Please know that Kris and I and the kids will dearly miss Shirley. She was a good friend and a great neighbor to us all. Our heart goes out to all of you. Over the difficult days to come, may God grant you the strength to overcome your sadness and fondly remember the joy and laughter she brought to us all.
From Dylan, Evan, Kamryn, and Eric- We are deeply sadened and overwelmed by the loss of our mother and grandmother. We love you and will never forget you and the things you have given, and done, or the obsticles you have over come.Kamryn will pray for Memaw ever night and will always cherish the most awesomest two weeks that she spent with you in July 2011 and august 2011.Evan will think of you every time he plays monoply-Dylan has a fond memorie of swimming with Memaw in Port Lavaca Texas.Eric will miss your cooking. especially the fried eggs and the scrambled egg and sausage crossiant concoction that you threw together at a moments notice that I never got enough of.
