Shirley Myers

October 27, 1947 ~ July 30, 2022

Shirley Faye Fruge Myers, 74, of Lake Charles, LA, passed away at 10:52 AM on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at her daughter's home.

Mrs. Myers was born October 27, 1947 in Lake Charles, LA, raised on Creole Street.  She graduated from LaGrange High School in 1966.  She began her career specializing in OBGYN as a nurse with Dr. John Moffett.  She worked with him throughout his entire career and then worked for Dr. Rachel Chua, retiring in 2018.  “Mrs. Shirley” as she was known will forever be remembered by her patients and coworkers for her caring, compassionate, and friendly nature.  Mrs. Myers was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God and later Freedom Life Church.  She had a great love of traveling and enjoyed spending time outdoors, gardening and cruising the river on the pontoon boat.

Mrs. Myers is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, Earl Myers; daughter, Dena Breaux, both of Lake Charles; son, Jason Myers (Ericka Browne) of Frisco, TX; sister, Sandra Elaine Fruge (Richard Test) of Peoria, IL; sister-in-law and close friend, Sharon Chesson of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Devin Breaux and Riley Breaux; and her fur babies, Abigail and Thibodeaux.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elroy and Sally Marie Fruge; brother, Alan Ray Fruge; and niece, Stacey Rochelle Eads.

Her cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

The family would like to express a special word of thanks to Amedisys Hospice Care, especially to Stephanie and Stacy for the care and compassion given.

Shirley Lavon Myers, 85, passed away on August 7, 2018 at a local care facility.

 

Mrs. Myers was born on January 9, 1933 in Studley, KS. Mrs. Myers had the opportunity to live and travel to many exotic places with her husband who was in the petroleum industry. They lived in Indonesia, Cairo, Dubai, Texas, Louisiana, and New Mexico. She loved the Texas Hill Country and camping in Garner State Park. She enjoyed quilting and scrap booking. Her family fondly remembers her as a sweet, loving, and generous person that loved life. She very much loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband of 67 years, Homer Myers; two sons, Dale Myers and wife, Paula of Lake Charles, Dwight Myers and wife, Rita of Vung Tau, Vietnam; daughter, Tammy Newby of Beaumont, TX; three sisters, Eleanor Eatherly, Bonnie Hooks, and Mava Branham; brother, George Scott Jr.; ten grandchildren, Christopher Myers and wife, Jennifer, Lindsey Myers LeBlanc and husband, Blake, Tod Everage and wife, Llewellyn, Cole Everage and wife, Amanda, Samantha Myers Houston and husband Matt, Rachel Newby Stambaugh and husband, Sean, Karen Newby Langham and husband, Joshua, Graeme Newby and wife, Randi Kay, Matthew Newby and wife, Ashlea, and Jeniya Jenkavinska and husband, Levik; and twenty one great grandchildren with one on the way.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Margaret Scott; and three sisters, Lorraine Lyons, Elaine Casbier, and Jeanine Landis.

 

A celebration of life will be held at Johnson Funeral Home on Saturday, August 18, 2018 from 1PM to 5PM. Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.

 

The family wishes to extend a special a word of thanks to Resthaven Nursing Center and Brighton Bridge Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.
