Sybil Stakes Thiele

Sybil Stakes Thiele, 90, has peacefully left us, as of Wednesday, March 2, 2011.


The youngest daughter of James (Jim) and Ola Meritt Stakes, Sybil was from a family of fourteen children. Stakes Road north of Crowley bears this family name, where the family home site was located. Born on May 5, 1920 in Crowley, and the last living child of this original Stakes family, Sybil graduated from Crowley High School in 1941. She was married to Harold Otto Thiele from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and they had one son, Theo (Ted) Thiele. Sybil enjoyed the fellowship of Sale Street Baptist Church, housekeeping and cooking, all types of flowers, plants and gardening, as well as traveling around the country with her husband in their travel trailer. She also enjoyed volunteering for various types of church building mission work.


She is survived by one son, Theo (Ted) Thiele of Moss Bluff, and numerous nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 4, 20ll, at Johnson Funeral Home. Rev. Randy Edwards will officiate. Interment will be at Maxie Cemetery in Maxie, Louisiana, north of Crowley. Visitation will be Thursday, March 3, from 4 until 7 p.m. and on Friday from 8 a.m. until service time.
