Sylvia Marie Calloura, 96 of Lake Charles died at 8:35 AM Tuesday, June 21, 2011 in her residence.
Mrs. Calloura was born in Sunset, Louisiana and has lived in Lake Charles all of her life. She was a graduate of St. Charles Academy. Mrs. Calloura was a member of our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.
She is survived by two daughters Mrs. Sam Ange (Barbara) of Lake Charles and Mrs. James C. Gary (Joe Anna), one sister Mrs. B.P. Babineaux (Etta Belle),all of Lake Charles, 10 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph Calloura, her parents Alice and Junius Elmer, and son-in-law James C. Gary, Sr.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Monsignor Jace Eskind will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary and scripture service to be held at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue at 8:00 AM on Thursday until 10:00 AM in the funeral home.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Odyssey Hospice, Crystal Sam, Michelle White, and Odysseys' continuous care team; and her special care giver Katherine Aubry, Sheila Wilson and her granddaughter Debra Cobb.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Odyssey Hospice of Lake Charles and to St. Louis Catholic High School.
Barbara, Sam, and JoAnna and family. I know how much you all loved your mother/grandmother. But I also know she is up in heaven with your beloved father/grandfather and is smiling down on all of you with the light of God shining on her face. She will be dearly missed. Dick and I offer our condolences to all of the Calloura family. Dick remembers growing up next door to the Callouras and having breakfast after Midnight Mass and watermelon parties at the corner store. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you!
I am so going to miss her ,I enjoyed our visit,We loved talking about grandbabies or as she put it my( pappuses)I hope im spelling it right.God Bless you all.
It is with deep sadness that we hear of the passing of Maw Maw. Maw Maw is now with PaPa Joe. We will always remember all the wonderful times we had together. Many, Many dinners including Maw Maw's famous liver dinners. Our condolences to the entire family. Maw Maw is at rest with PaPa Joe.
