Wanda Griffith Darbonne

Wanda Griffith Darbonne, 77, of Lake Charles passed away at 10:37 PM on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 in her residence surrounded by her three children.

Mrs. Darbonne was born on August 19, 1946 in Lake Charles where she lived all of her life and attended Washington High School. She loved baking and owned her own bakery and later worked at Players Casino as a valet supervisor and a cashier. In her earlier years she worked at George Theriot. Mrs. Darbonne was a parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

She took joy in crocheting and sewing and was a member of the Friendship club.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Ryan Darbonne (Tracy), Marcella Darbonne (Brian Williams), and Christopher Darbonne (Adrien); sisters, Rita Guidry, Louanna August, and Sylvania Fontenot (August); grandchildren, Desira Thomas, Desmond “Pop” Thomas, Devin “Cush” Thomas, Davon Darbonne, Shannon Darbonne, Ramone Sonnier, Kristen Darbonne, Yolanda Darbonne, Riley Darbonne, Trey Thibodeaux, and Reneka Thomas; bonus grandchildren, Brianni and Bralyn; and a host of great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Lee Darbonne; parents, Ophelia and Clifford Griffith, Sr.; grandson, Dynell Dise; and siblings, Ruby Jolivette, Bertha Delahoussaye, Laura Rivera, and Donald, Herbert, Clifford Jr., Gilbert, and Wesley Griffith.

A funeral mass will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Father Rommel Tolentino will officiate. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held in the Moss Bluff location on Saturday from 9:00 AM until leaving for the church at 11:30 AM.

I love you Auntie, watch over us and send us all little reminders of your love and presence in our lives especially your children.   4. I met Wanda during Desert Storm and we became friends waiting for both our sons to come home. She did all the preparations for my daughter’s weddings. I am so sorry to hear of her passing and I pray her family will feel the love and comfort that Jesus will give them.
