Wanda Virginia Pousson Cormier, 75, of Westlake, LA, passed away at 4:33 PM on Friday, January 13, 2023 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Cormier was born October 9, 1947 in Lake Charles, LA and was a 1967 graduate of Marion High School. Throughout the years, she worked various retail positions, including at Walgreens, The Eye Clinic, and Caraways Pharmacy, where she retired after a number of years. She was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church. She co-chaired and coordinated the St. John Bosco Festival and for ten years was chairperson for the March of Dimes Walk America. She enjoyed McNeese football, camping, watercolor paints, and searching for hidden treasures at garage sales and flea markets, but her true passion was always for her family. Wanda was known as NaNa to the many children she invited into her home. She was always there for their ball games, dance recitals, school field trips, band performances and anything else she was asked to do.
Mrs. Cormier is survived by her husband of fifty-one years, James “J.C.” Cormier; daughter, Deanna Cormier Theriot; sister, Betty LaRocca; grandsons, Bryce Cormier and Layne Theriot; and great-granddaughter, Myla Cormier.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alton and Gussie Pousson; brothers, Joseph “Joe” Pousson, Alton “Junior” Pousson, and Alfred Pousson; and sister, Sylvia LaFleur.
Following her wishes, her cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
The family would like to express a special word of thanks to the Westlake Fire Department, West Cal-Cam Hospital, Cornerstone extended ICU, Sheila Pousson and Pat Burcham for all of the care, love and support received.
