Wilbur Will Laumann

January 29, 1915 ~ December 11, 2010

On Saturday, December 11, 2010, at 7:11 a.m., Wilbur "Will" Laumann entered into eternal rest, joining the love his life, Vi, who preceded him four years earlier.

Will was born and reared in New Orleans, where he attended McDonald 23 School. He worked for 23 years as a supervisor over by-products. When Swift closed its doors in Lake Charles in 1960, he was transferred to Belleville, Illinois, as a supervisor. After a year there, Will was ready to move home to Louisiana. He then worked for Houston Packing, but it again, was just not home. Still not ready to retire, he worked then next 26 years for Pendleton Security. Still eager to stay busy, Will traveled with his son-in-law, Richard Mesh, who owned Plastic Repairs at that time. He really enjoyed flying and helping Richard with the jobs that took them mainly to the East Coast. After retirement, Will and Vi traveled all over the United States in their motor home, enjoying every moment of it. Will was a member of The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Preceding him in death was his loving wife of 70 years, Vina "Vi" Laumann, his mother and father, Frank and Florence Laumann, his brother, Frank, and sister, Elvera.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his three daughters, Beverly Mesh and husband, Richard and Betty Ellender and husband, Al all of Lake Charles, and Brenda Mouhot and husband, Michael of Indian Village; his eight grandchildren, Lisa Mesh of Santa Clara, CA, Richarda Mesh of Lake Charles, Tiffany Miller and husband, Paul of Sulphur, Doug Mesh of Austin, TX, Paige E. Ward and Chad Ellender both of Lake Charles, Ryan Mouhot of Indian Village, and Stacy Folse and husband, Darrel of Breaux Bridge; and 10 great-grandchildren.

His funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Monday, December 13, 2010, at Johnson Funeral Home. Father Charles McMillan will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 12, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and again on Monday, December 13, from 8 a.m. until time of service. A rosary and scripture service will be prayed at 6 p.m. Sunday evening. Special thanks and gratitude to his caregivers Bernadine, Susan, and Michelle for all the love and care they gave and also to Southern Care for their help.

Memories Timeline

  1. I grew up down teh street from Mr. Mrs. Laumann, they were great, frriendly people. I recall their beautiful Great Dane, playing football with us in the empty lot across from their house. The dog would often take the football and run home with it. Mr. Laumann would bring it back to us sometimes, laughing at the dog. Great people, the world is a lesser place without them.

  2. My heart and prayers are with Rikki and all of the Mesh family at this time of sorrow and joy as MiMi and PawPaw are reunited in Heaven.
