Private memorial services for William Jennings Wise, Jr., 84, will be held today, October 9, 2010 in Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
A native of Marksville, LA, Mr. Wise attended Louisiana State University and Louisiana State University Law School, receiving Bachelor of Science degrees in both history and law. He moved to Lake Charles in 1950 to begin his law practice. He practiced with the firms of Graham, Smith and Wise; Smith and Wise and later in private practice, retiring in 1998.
Mr. Wise served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and participated in the Okinawa invasion. He was also a past member of the American Bar Association, the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Southwest Louisiana Bar Association, Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity and Theta XI Fraternity. He was an avid sportsman who especially loved hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Matter Wise; two sons, Stephen Jennings Wise and Gregory Glenn Wise; one grandson, Tanner Jennings Wise; and one brother, James Wise.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boys and Girls Villages Foundation, 7378 Hwy 90 E, Lake Charles, LA 70615 or to a charity of one's choice.
Dear Mrs. Wise,Greg and Family I had the honor to meet your husband,DAD a few times. I have always beleived that we LEARN from the Elderly. They have a wealth of knowledge and the sence of what is trurly right,experence!!!! I loved talking to Mr. Wise I thought he was so so very interesting,I expecially liked his view on life. I wish there were more Lawyers like him. God will be blessed to have him on his team! I only wish I would have had more time to talk to him. I fill priveliged to have known him. I loved his stories about how they USE to Lawyer around here. May God Bless your family,this is a happy day for him. Time will heal your sadness of missing him one day will be replaced with wonderful memories in your heart forever. He is always there for ya'll,just close your eyes,say a prayer and he will listen.
