Addie May Barrilleaux Cormie

Addie May Barrilleaux Cormie, 87, of Lake Charles passed away on Monday, January 11, 2016 in a local care facility.

 

Addie was born November 13, 1928 to Louis Sidney and Enolie Louviere Barrilleaux in Sulphur, LA. She had resided in Iowa and Lake Charles. Addie was an honors graduate of LaGrange High School and attended Sowela Technical School, Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and McNeese State University. Addie started working as an extra for the Muller Co at the age of 14, she continued working throughout her high school years for The Southern Amusement Company as a cashier. After graduation she worked at the MathiesonAlkai Plant. Upon moving to Baton Rouge she was employed in the LSU Athletic Department and then worked in the LSU Field Office of the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs until it was closed and almost all of the WWII Veterans had matriculated, she was then promoted to the departments Executive Offices at the state capitol. Upon returning to Lake Charles she worked as an Executive Secretary in the district office of Oilwell Supply Company, then for Stanolind Oil and Gas Company in the district production department.

 

Addie bred, trained and showed registered Quarter Horses until her health caused her to disband at which time she donated her prize winning broodmares to McNeese University. She was a founding member of the Louisiana Catfish Farmers Association, where she held various positions and was also a member of The Catfish Farmers of America where she served on the Board of Directors. She was co-owner of Linda Vista Farms and Ranch in Iowa where rice, soybeans, Black Angus cattle, Quarter Horses and catfish were raised. Addie was also co-owner of PawPaw’s Seafood and Steakhouse where many of her recipes were featured including her famous “Catfish Courtboullion” that was served as an appetizer to all their patrons.

 

Addie was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, John Lee (Joyce) Barrilleaux and her niece, Francine Lee Barrilleaux Riley.

 

She is survived by her two sons, Nathan Adam Cormie, Jr. and Mark Shannon Cormie (Lisa); four grandchildren, Ashley Granger (Justin), Lindsey Cotton (Chris), Tiffany Dawn Cormie, and Jared Dylan Cormie; two great granddaughters, Lyza Kay and Lucy Rae Granger; nephew, Clay Louis Barrilleaux; and niece, Julie Barrilleaux Hill.

 

A memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Deacon Harold Nixon will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 3:00 PM and continue until the start of the services.

 

The family of Mrs. Cormie wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of Resthaven Nursing Center for the excellent care, compassion, and kindness shown to our Mother.
