Alfred Anthony Palma Jr., 89, peacefully passed away at his home in Lake Charles, LA, on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, joining the love of his life, Margaret, with his family by his side. He was born on November 9, 1935, in Liberty, TX, to Alfred and Mary Marcello Palma.
Alfred was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. In 1960, he graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL) with a degree in civil engineering. He then began his career with Bartley Incorporated. In 1986, he founded Alfred Palma Inc. and enjoyed a successful career in building in Lake Charles, working diligently into his 88th year. One of his proudest accomplishments was the Lake Charles Regional Airport Terminal.
He was an active member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Kiwanis Club, and many other organizations. His passion for the community was evident, as he supported the Calcasieu and Cameron Parish 4-H Clubs, CCA, Delta Waterfowl, NRA, Ducks Unlimited, and more. Outside of his career, Alfred's life revolved around his family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, family trips, and LSU football!
He instilled a deep sense of love and devotion in his family and in everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children: John Palma (Cindy), Judy Fitzpatrick (Shawn), Linda Farner (Jay), and James Palma (Diana); his grandchildren: Michael Palma (Rachel), Dr. Christine Palma Mauk (Kyle), Kristian Farner (Dr. Jordan McColm), McKenzie Fitzpatrick, Connor Fitzpatrick (Lila), and Jason Farner; his great-grandchildren: Graham and Madison Fitzpatrick, Jeremy Harvey, Jade Farner, Charlotte Farner, and baby girl Lola Mauk, who is on the way; his sister, Beni Murphy; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends Gayle Zembower, Willie Moreno, and his two favorite hunting and fishing buddies, Donald Morris and Peter Vedder.
Shawn Fitzpatrick, Jay Farner, Michael Palma, Kristian Farner, Connor Fitzpatrick, Jason Farner, and Sean Harvey will be pallbearers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Mary Marcello Palma; his sister, Marie Palma; and his brother-in-law, Fred Murphy.
The family would like to thank their loving caregivers and Amedisys Hospice. As a supporter of OLQH Church, donations to the church would be appreciated.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 5, 2025 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Monsignor Daniel Torres will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Sunday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday from 9:00 AM until leaving for the church at 10:30 AM.
