Allen J. LeJeune

Feb 2, 1930 — Sep 29, 2026

Lake Charles, Louisiana

AJ was born on February 2, 1930, in Basile, Louisiana, to Martin and Ida Johnson LeJeune. He was raised in Basile, where he attended school from first through twelfth grade. One accomplishment he remained especially proud of throughout his life was maintaining perfect attendance every single year of school, a testament, even at a young age, to the dedication and dependability that would follow him throughout his life.

While still in Basile, one of AJ’s first jobs was working as a projectionist at the local movie theater. His pay included all the popcorn he could eat, a deal that lasted only until his second night, when management quickly limited him to two bags. Anyone who knew AJ knew just how much he loved popcorn, making this one of the many stories that perfectly captured his personality.

AJ later made his way to Lake Charles, where he worked briefly in sales at Ed Taussig Ford. During that time, he began building what would become a lasting part of his life and the Lake Charles community: L&L Package Liquor.

For more than 65 years, AJ and his wife, Lelia-Ray, proudly owned and operated L&L Package Liquor. More than just a business, L&L became AJ’s second home and a gathering place for countless customers, friends, stories, jokes, and Friday night games. As one of Lake Charles’ longtime local businesses, L&L was a place where AJ knew his customers by name and was always ready with a story, a joke, or a friendly conversation.

AJ will be remembered for his quick wit, his gift for storytelling, and the way he could make anyone feel welcome. Outside of L&L, family was especially important to him. He was never one to arrive empty-handed and was always known for being well dressed, often completing his look with his signature suspenders.

Throughout his life, AJ was active in several organizations and clubs, including the Knights of Columbus, Young Men’s Business Club, Cruisin’ Cajuns, and the Texas Outlaws, where he served as a past president. He enjoyed the friendships, fellowship, and many memories made through these organizations over the years.

AJ leaves behind his three children, Sheila Goos of Lake Charles, Louisiana; Paula Anglin and her husband, Barry, of Birmingham, Alabama; and Michael LeJeune of Lake Charles, Louisiana. He is also survived by six grandchildren, along with numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who will carry on his memory and the many stories he shared throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Ida Johnson LeJeune; his beloved wife, Lelia-Ray LeJeune; and his grandson, Kevin Clooney.

AJ lived a long and meaningful life filled with family, friendship, laughter, hard work, and more than a few good stories. His presence at L&L, his sense of humor, his unmistakable style, and the memories he created with generations of family and friends will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to AJ’s in-home caregivers, Mrs. Sandra and Mr. Eugene, for the kindness, companionship, and care they provided to him. The family would also like to thank the staff of Harbor Hospice for their compassion, support, and care during his final days.
