Andrew Valery Welch

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Andrew Valery Welch, fondly known as Andy, who left us on December 4, 2025, at the age of 73. He was born on July 20, 1952, in Crowley, LA, where he grew up, and had his 3 sons, Drew, Gavin and Marty. Later in life he moved to Lake Charles, LA, where he created a lifetime of cherished memories. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife; Germaine Welch, sons: Drew Welch, Gavin Welch and husband Bryan Chase, Marty Welch and wife Betsy, step-sons; Curtis Hooper and wife Michelle, Chad Hooper and wife Corina as well as Chris Hooper and wife Alisha. He found immense joy in being a grandfather to Caitlyn Chase, Makenzie Chase, Alyssa Soileau, Landen Soileau, Bryce Hooper, Chantelle Hooper, Jade Hooper, Skylar Hooper, Kennedy Hooper and Kamryn Hooper. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him. 

An easy-going man at heart, Andy had a passion for the outdoors. Whether it was cutting the grass with his trusty lawnmower or spending time on his beloved tractor, Andy found peace among nature. He loved hunting and had a particular knack for antique shopping, with a special affinity for old cast iron pots. A true bargain hunter, he was known for his thrifty ways. 

Andy was a brilliant minded man and began his career in the oil field and then in 1988 went to work with Turner Industries, where his strong work ethic and down-to-earth demeanor earned him the respect of his colleagues and friends. 

Funeral services will be held in his honor on December 10, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake St. Lake Charles, LA. 70605. Prior to the service, there will be a public viewing from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the same location. 

Andrew was preceded in death by his parents: Annette Welch, Manny Welch, brothers; Claude “Bubba” Welch, and Earl Welch.
