Arain Joseph Abshire

Jun 19, 1957 — Aug 18, 2026

Arain Joseph Abshire, 69, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at his home. He was born June 19, 1957, to Francis Soulieu and Ozar Steve Abshire in Abbeville, Louisiana.

Arain was an extremely hard worker. At just 16 years old, he began working offshore for Broussard Brothers alongside his uncle. He went on to work for Montgomery Ward for over 20 years before continuing his career at Country Club Auto Repair, where he worked for 30 years. Arain was an avid fisherman and hunter who especially enjoyed duck and deer hunting. He also enjoyed watching sci-fi shows and wrestling every Friday night. Above all, Arain was a devoted family man. He loved being a “Paw Paw” and “Pop” and would do anything for his grandchildren. You knew Arain loved you when he gave you a nickname, and you knew you were in trouble when he called you by your real name.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 49 years, Natalie Abshire; sons, Arain Abshire and wife, Nanci, and Phirma Abshire and wife, Amy; grandchildren, Jonathan, Layton, and Kennedie Abshire; sister, Sarah Abshire; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in passing by his parents; sisters, Stella Bartholomew, Linda Leger, Dorothy Brocklehurst, and Betty Abshire; and brothers, Steve “Jr.” Abshire, Billy Abshire, and John Wells.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, with Monsignor Torres officiating. Visitation will begin Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and will resume Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Arain will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery.
