Archie Neil Thomas, 98, of Sulphur, LA passed away Thursday, February 12, 2026, in a local hospital following a brief illness.
Mr. Thomas was born November 12, 1927, in Mt. Vernon, IL. He was raised in Mt. Vernon and Salem, IL. Following graduation, he Served the United State Navy during which time he met his sweetheart, Martha at an event at the Naval Base in Orange, TX. They later married and began their family. Mr. Thomas worked for Sonnier Electric until beginning his career of nineteen years at PPG, Industries. He was a member of the VFW Post in Sulphur and Vinton. He was also a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church and St. John Bosco Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He served as an Extra Ordinary Minister, was a member of The Legion of Mary and the Seafarers’ Center for the Port of Lake Charles with Father Sinclair Ourbe. An active faithful servant, Mr. Thomas instilled the importance of raising his family and the generations that followed in the Catholic church.
He enjoyed fishing and shrimping, spending time at his camp in Hackberry and on his boat “Marsha Rose” at Dugas Landing. Amongst his greatest times were those he spent “RVing” cross country. He also enjoyed travels to Canada and Italy and Mission trips to Mexico.
Mr. Thomas will be remembered for his love of laughter in countless Boudreaux and Thibodeaux jokes and will be most remembered for his unwavering love and devotion to his church, his family, and his adoration of his grandchildren.
He leaves to honor his memory, one daughter, Marsha Benoit (Michael) of Orange, TX; two sons, Gleason Thomas (Donna) of Vinton, LA and Bryan “Dubbie” Thomas (Beverly) of Sulphur, LA; seven grandchildren, Keith Benoit, Brandy Lonidier (Lonnie), Jason Thomas (Kim), Kenneth Thomas (Jenny), Jennifer Watson (Jared), Brandan Thomas (Laken) and Kendyl Thomas; five great grandchildren, one sister, Marcella Withrow of Port Arthur, TX and many nieces, nephew and friends. He also leaves his church family of St. Theresa and St. John Bosco.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Broussard Thomas; parents, Roy Thomas and Pearl Burton Thomas and two brothers, Gleason Thomas and James Thomas.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 AM Friday, February 20, 2026, at St. Theresa Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Sulphur. Father Sibi Kunninu and Father Carlos Garcia will officiate. Interment services with Military honors will be at St. Mary Catholic Church Cemetery in Orange, TX Visitation Thursday will be from 4:00 until 8:00 PM with a Knights of Columbus rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation Friday will be from 8:00 until 9:30 AM in the funeral home.
Pallbearers for his services will be his grandsons.
Gift bearers for his Funeral Mass will be his granddaughters.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Theresa Catholic Church, 4822 Carlyss Drive, Sulphur, LA 70665.
