Armin Brahm passed away on December 27, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 5, 1934, in Duisberg, Germany to Elizabeth and Detlev Brahm. Much of his very early childhood was spent in Austria with his father, a teacher, who helped to shelter young children from the chaos of WWII. Armin was 11 years old when he was finally able to return to his home in Duisberg.
After attaining degrees from Marburg University (Chemistry) and University of Gottingen (research) he immigrated to the US and worked at a Volkswagen dealership while he attended Rutgers University to get his degrees transferred to English . He worked at American Cyanamid and Cities Service Refinery in New Jersey. When he got transferred to the Lake Charles Refinery, he fell in love with the South Louisiana culture. Armin was proud to be an American and cherished his American citizenship.
He was a avid scuba diver and was fortunate to dive all over the world. His love of travel is legendary and he and Janelle were very blessed to take off after retirement and empty two bucket lists. Armin never sat still!
He was a member of the Bucaneers, Krewe du Bon Coeur (King 2005), Krewe de la Famille, Krewe déjà vu du Monde, Krewe de la Noblesse and Krewe des Danseur Fou.
Armin was Past Commander of the Lake Charles Power Squadron and enjoyed many days on his boat on local (and not so local) waterways. He also enjoyed teaching the AARP Safe Driving Course for several years.
Armin is survived by his wife Marie Janelle Briggs Brahm. He is also survived by his daughters: Audrey Brahm Moore (Donnie), Debbie Brahm Day (Dan), bonus daughters: Laura Ponthieux Turner (Skipper), Carrie Ponthieux Marcantel (Richard) and Amy Ponthieux Knight (Troy). He is survived by his grandchildren, Katlyn Moore, Nathan Moore, Dylan Day (Suhki), bonus grandchildren: Justin Turner, Jesse Turner, Jordan LeLeux (Becca), Jacob Fontenot (Allysa), Molly Fontenot, Samantha Fontenot, Jordan Knight Chatagnier (Blake), Easton Knight and eight bonus great grandchildren.
A Mass will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church on Friday, January 2, 2025, at 2:00 PM. Visitation will take place at Johnson Funeral Home from 11:00 AM until 1:30 PM. He will be laid to rest at Consolata Cemetery. Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.
