Arthur Paul Mitchell, 70, of River Ridge, LA, died on Monday, February 13, 2017 in a New Orleans care facility.
Mr. Mitchell was born October 16, 1946 in Lake Charles, LA and was a graduate of LaGrange Senior High School in 1964. He went on to graduate from McNeese State College in 1968 with his B.A. in Pre-Law and served two years in the U.S. Army, rising to the rank of 1st Lieutenant and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in Vietnam. He then graduated from Louisiana State University Law School in 1973 with a Juris Doctorate Degree. Upon his graduation from law school, he went to work for Chevron USA, Inc. in New Orleans, where he spent thirty-one years in the Chevron Legal Department, retiring in 2004. During his youth, Mr. Mitchell earned the honor of Eagle Scout. He enjoyed reading and spending time with his family. He also loved fishing offshore, making annual trips to Destin, FL and Gulf Shores, AL with family and friends.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by his brother, Noland Alan Mitchell and wife Bonnie of Lake Charles; nephew, Michael Mitchell and wife Cary of Moss Bluff; niece, Meagan McFatter and husband Max of Lake Charles; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Kaylyn, Nathan, Kirston, Kassidy, Miller, Molly, and Layla.
He was preceded in death by parents, Paul and Anne Barbara Mitchell; sister, Alyce Ann Preston Jessop; and nephew, Corey Mitchell.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Ronnie Estes will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.
