Asa Joseph "Joe" Foreman Jr.

Iowa – Asa Joseph “Joe” Foreman, born June 25, 1922, son of the late Asa Joseph Foreman, Sr. and Frances Broussard Foreman, passed away September 25, 2020, at the age of 98.
Joe attended school in Lake Arthur until 1932. The family moved to Iowa, LA and he attended Lacassine, Iowa and Welsh Elementary schools. He graduated from Iowa High School in 1941. He enrolled at SW LA Institute in Lafayette until he enlisted in the US Army Air Corp on September 9, 1942. Joe served in China, India, and Burma Theater and was active in the Veterans Association, American Legion and DAV.
Joe met Lucille Bernard and they married in 1946. He continued his education at SLI and received his BS degree and then his Master’s degree from LSU in 1951. He coached sports at Iowa High School for 17 years and retired as principal after 17 years. He was Coach of the Year of Calcasieu 7 times and of SW LA District for 3 years. Joe retired in 1984 and became active as a volunteer at Iowa schools.
He was instrumental in forming the city government for Iowa and was the 1st City Clerk for Iowa. Joe helped organize the Iowa AARP, Merchants Association and was a charter member of the Iowa Lion’s Club and Iowa Knights of Columbus.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents; infant child, Edwin Warren Foreman; brothers, Hillard Stephen Foreman and Calvin Isaac Foreman.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Lucille B. Foreman; children, Benny Foreman (Shelley) Patsy Trahan (Chris); Paul Foreman (Debbie) all of Lake Charles; Ricky Foreman (Susan Murphy) of Lincoln, Montana; Anne Corbello; Mike Foreman and Bruce Foreman, all of Iowa; siblings, Frank Earl Foreman; Mary Dell Hidalgo (Vernon); Margaret Ann Brignac (Joseph), all of Iowa; grandchildren, Andrea Harris; Danielle Fontenot; Allison Dehner; Olivia Tichavsky; Stephen Corbello; Dr. Mark Trahan; Gregory Trahan; Malinda; Justin; Kyle; Jordan; Josh; Joe; Jeannie; Derick; Alex Foreman; 22 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held in St. Raphael Catholic Church on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at 11 a.m. The Very Rev. Anthony Fontenot, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Lacassine Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Visitation will begin in the church from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
