Audrey Marie Breaux, 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, in the comfort of her Lake Charles home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 24, 1933, in Lake Charles to Abra and Mary Thibodeaux Newman.
Audrey grew up in Big Lake, where she learned early the value of family, hard work, and a life lived close to the outdoors. While working at Muller's Department Store in Lake Charles, she met the love of her life, Dalton Breaux, a young man whose persistence eventually won her heart. They married in 1952 and shared 57 beautiful years together.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Audrey poured her heart into her family. She was feisty in all the best ways; spirited, competitive, and full of life. She loved being outdoors, whether camping, crabbing, tending her flowers, or playing croquet with the kids, often long after the sun had set. She rarely missed a chance to watch her children and grandchildren play sports, cheering them on with pride.
Audrey also had a gift for bringing people together. She loved hosting gatherings of family and friends, filling her home with warmth, laughter, and her famous roast and potatoes, a dish many will forever associate with her table and her love.
Audrey leaves behind a family who will always cherish her strength, her joy, and the countless memories she created. May she rest in peace, reunited with those who went before her, and may her legacy of love continue to shine through the generations she leaves behind.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Carolyn Fontenot (Byron), Brian Breaux (Suzy Alexander), Cindy Beville (Claude); her daughter-in-law, Susan Breaux (Terrell, deceased); her grandchildren, Jason Fontenot, Adam Beville, Chloe Beville, Lauren Breaux, Misty Stevens, and Leah Authement; her great-grandchildren, Ashlynn Fontenot, Brelynn Fontenot, Lakynn Stevens, and Kelcy Stevens.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years, Dalton Breaux; and her son, Terrell Breaux.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2025, at St. Margaret Catholic Church, 2500 Enterprise Blvd., with the Rev. Nathan Long serving as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will be held in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, 4321 Lake Street, on Wednesday evening, Dec. 10, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. until the procession departs for the church at 10:30 a.m.
