Austin Joe Hayes Borders, 30, of Ragley passed away at 12:29 PM on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 in an Alexandria hospital.
Born on March 25, 1996, in Vandalia, Illinois, he spent much of his childhood moving from place to place as part of a military family while his father served in the armed forces. Twenty years ago, his family settled in DeRidder, where he attended DeRidder High School and was known for his love of football and his natural athletic ability. In his earlier years, he enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. He began what would become a lifelong career as a welder, taking pride in his hard work, dedication, and craftsmanship.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Makayla Borders; his children, Jaxton Joe Borders, Lincoln Hayes Borders, Kash Austin Borders, Kenlee Noel White, and Avery Grace White; his dad, Richard Brandon Workman; siblings, Zachary Workman, Chloe Borders, and Dayton Borders; and a niece, Athena Price.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Susan Workman and paternal grandparents, Sharon and Leon Borders.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 4, 2026 in the Johnson Funeral Home in Moss Bluff. The Rev. Steve Shirley will officiate. Burial will follow in Beauregard Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM until the start of the service.
