Austin Scott Fruge

Austin Scott Frugé, 14, of Lake Charles, LA, died on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 in a Houston, TX hospital.

 

Austin was born August 29, 2002 in Lake Charles, LA, where he spent all of his life.  He attended Fairview Elementary, where he won first place in the Region 5 Science Fair, and competed and placed in the district finals at McNeese State University. He also attended Southwest Louisiana Charter Academy, where he was a member of the basketball team and Lake Charles College Preparatory Academy. He was the inspiration of the Southwest Louisiana Charter Academy school’s colors and mascot. Most recently was attending LaGrange Senior High School, where he was a Freshman.  He was a member of the NJROTC and the Chess Club and football team. He was a state finalist in the soccer kick-off competition sponsored by the St. Margaret Catholic Church Knights of Columbus Council 3208. He was a member of the Lake Charles Gun Club as well as a spring 2010 graduate of the Calcasieu Parish Junior Deputy Program. Austin was a mentor to the youth in his neighborhood.

 

Austin was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church, where he was a member of the youth group, served as an Altar Server and received perfect attendance in CCD three years in a row.  He was active in Taekwondo, receiving a number of awards, and had completed all the requirements for earning his black belt.  He was also an active member of the Boy Scout Troop 107, where currently served as Senior Patrol Leader. He participated in various excursions with the BSA including hiking in Colorado, and was planning on attending the upcoming National Jamboree. He was a member of the staff at Camp Edgewood and was due to be elected to the Order of the Arrow of Quelqueshoe Lodge 166. He was also the top seller of the annual BSA popcorn fundraiser for the Pioneer District.

 

Austin is survived by his parents, Jefferd Earl Frugé, Jr. and Theresa Delcambre Frugé; and brother, ABE2(AW/SW) Frugé, Jefferd Earl (III) of NAS Whiting Field, and fiancée Tiffany Castleberry, of Milton, Florida.

 

He was preceded in death by his brother, Nicholas Joseph Frugé.

 

His funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at St. Margaret Catholic Church.  Father Marcus Johnson will officiate.  Burial will follow in Frey Cemetery in Mowata, LA. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary at 6:00 PM.  Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Saturday from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM.

 

Pallbearers will be members of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office.
