Barbara Anne Abshire

Barbara Anne Abshire, passed away on September 15, 2026, which would have been her 90th birthday. Barbara was born on September 15, 1936, in Clinton, Louisiana. She worked at a movie theatre where she met her husband of 46 years. They married on February 26, 1955. They moved to Sulphur in 1956 where she raised four children. She loved sewing, fixing puzzles and reading the newspapers on her front porch. Barbara was a collector of owls. She worked at their corner store before going to work for Brookshire Brothers where she retired after 15 plus years. After retiring, she raised her dachshunds, and Macy, her poodle. She loved going dancing on Wednesdays at the singles club.

Barbara is survived by her three children, Tony Gerald Abshire of Sulphur, Rhonda Roden Abshire of Sulphur and Deirdre Everage Abshire of Elgin, Texas; six grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Delmar Abshire; and her daughter, Andrea Ellender Abshire.

Services for Barbara will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at 1 PM at Johnson Funeral Home of Sulphur with Pastor Marcus Wade officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 AM until the time of service. Burial will follow at Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss.
