Barbara Jane Bertrand Bourgeois, 69, of Sulphur, LA passed away Thursday December 14, 2017 in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her precious family.
Mrs. Bourgeois was born in Hathaway, raised in Lake Charles and has lived most of her life in Sulphur. She was a graduate of Marion High School. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years for American Bank of Commerce and fifteen years for Century Steps. She retired from Walmart as an Inventory Processor with nearly twenty years. She was a member and former President of the Ladies Knights of Columbus Auxilary. Mrs. Bourgeois was an avid bowler having bowled over twenty years in different leagues. She and her husband bowled twenty-one years with the All American Mixed League and won the Knights of Columbus State Mixed Doubles (Handicapped Division). For many years she coached the American Junior Bowling Congress and their traveling team. They traveled throughout Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas. She was an incredibly gifted baker; her specialty was her annual Christmas candies made for family, friends and her husband’s co-workers. She will be most remembered for her baking, leaving a legacy of “baking day” created with she and her mother, mother-in-law and sisters. During her later years, she enjoyed spending time at the camp in Evans, working puzzles, adult coloring, and Senior Circle dining with her husband and new friends. Mrs. Bourgeois’ greatest joy was the time she shared with her husband, daughters and grandchildren. She was always a wife and mom first, devoting her life and her love to her family.
She leaves to cherish her family, her husband of forty-nine years, Michael Robert Bourgeois of Sulphur; two daughters, Susan Denise Hicks of Sulphur and Tiffany Marie Ivy and husband John Paul of Bridge City, TX; two grandchildren, Marissa Michelle Ivy Moore and husband Gage and Henry Dalton Ivy, all of Bridge City, TX ; one great-grandson, Bryson Wayne Moore of Bridge City, TX; two sisters, Dorothy Malon and husband Jerry of Lake Charles and Helen Kratzer of Roanoke; one brother, Harry Bertrand of Moss Bluff and mother-in-law, Verna Ann Bourgeois of Lake Charles.
She was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Shelbi Lynn Hicks and Alisa Nicole Hicks; her parents, Louis and Elodie Bertrand; two brothers, Howard Bertrand and Edward Bertrand and father-in-law Nelson Bourgeois.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, December 17, 2017 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Father Edward Richard will officiate. Interment will follow in Mimosa Pines South. Visitation Saturday will be from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00PM. Visitation Sunday will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
